Supernatural Spotlight: Siberian Fir
07-17-2020We wanted to take some time to share with you one of our favorite essential oils, Siberian Fir! This essential oil has a beautiful history, rich with ceremonial cleaning and healing reaching back thousands of years.
The word “fir” comes from the Old English word firgen meaning “mountain forest”, based on ancient words like firre and fyr, meaning “fire” and “light”. Fir trees symbolize truth and honesty to the ancient people because of the way they grew straight and narrow. A group of them together was often considered as a symbol of friendship.
Coniferous trees in general – Fir, Pine, Spruce – are viewed as the guardian trees of our planet with their specific purifying, cleansing constituents. Their oils are considered potent cleansers and have strong antimicrobial and antibacterial properties! It also has the added benefit of helping your respiratory system, so using products with fir essential oils actually help you breathe easier even as it effectively cleans your home.
In aromatherapy, Siberian fir oil has a calming effect for our nervous system, its crisp, woody aroma can help with connecting us back to our love for the outdoors and the elevating aromas of being in the forests. Emotionally, Siberian Fir Essential Oil is an uplifting essential oil that isn't too overpowering or stimulating. It contains approximately 30% Bornyl acetate, an ester that contributes to the oil's calming, balancing and anti-inflammatory benefits.
It’s important to know that Fir and Pine Oils have been used in the past as a main additive for many cleaning products but have been replaced by harsher chemical variants to maximize profits.
