It’s Time. Let’s Clean Out The Closet!

My partner and I are doing our yearly cleaning out of the Closet. It’s daunting, we know, but with a few simple actions and tweaks you can transform your wardrobe hideaway into a place of magic. Just imagine opening your closet doors to find exactly what you’re looking for, that perfect outfit that defines who you are today! That’s the end-goal, so here’s what to do:

PURGE

The first step to organizing your closet is to get rid of anything you no longer wear or love. Be ruthless. If it doesn’t fit, if it’s no longer your style, or if it hasn’t been worn in 6 months, it’s time to let it go. I know it’s hard, especially that ratty old T that got you from that special vintage shop in your 20’s, but it’s time to sell or recycle these items to create more space for the outfits that truly make you feel fabulous. This experience is best done together (and can help avoid future arguments, trust me).

Group Together

Once you’ve decluttered, it’s time to organize. Group similar items together—hang all your dresses in one section, stack your sweaters on one shelf, and line up your shoes by type. This not only makes it easier to find what you’re looking for but also helps keep your closet looking neat and orderly. My wife stores our winter clothes when it’s spring, and rotates our seasonal outfits. I'm grateful she enjoys doing that for our home, otherwise I would wear the same 12 T-shirts year round (even though I still kind of do).

Invest In Good Hangers

Uniform hangers can make a huge difference in the look and feel of your closet. Opt for slim, non-slip hangers that save space and keep your clothes from slipping to the floor. Matching hangers also give your closet a more cohesive and polished appearance. We’re a bit more bohemian and we love collecting old colorful wooden hangers of varying styles for our closet, but choose a style that works best for you and your closet.

Maximize Your Space

Make the most of your closet space by using organizers, bins, and shelf dividers. Over-the-door hooks can be great for storing accessories like scarves or belts, while clear bins can help you see what’s inside without rummaging through everything. If space allows, consider adding a small dresser or drawers for folded items. Our closet often becomes the place we just throw to hide the mess, but by organizing we have saved ourselves a lot of headaches by maximizing and remembering how our closet flows.

Add A Touch Of Magic With Supernatural Incense

Now that your closet is organized, it’s time to infuse it with a scent that makes it feel truly enchanting. Supernatural incense (or any incense that you love) is the perfect way to keep your closet smelling fresh, witchy, and fabulous. Choose a scent that resonates with you—perhaps a blend of sandalwood and patchouli for a grounding, mystical vibe, or lavender and sage for a calming, cleansing essence.

Simply light the incense and let it burn for a few minutes with your closet doors open, allowing the scent to permeate the space. This small ritual will not only keep your closet smelling amazing but also add a touch of magic to your weekly (or monthly) routine. Plus, your clothes will always smell amazing.

Manage The Magic

To keep your closet looking and smelling great, make organizing a habit. Take a few minutes each week to put things back in their place, and refresh the space with a new stick of incense as needed. With a little regular upkeep, your closet will remain a sanctuary of style and comfort. The best advice I can share is purging your closet of what doesn't serve you any longer, we do this every 6 months (typically when we rotate our seasonal clothes). Honestly it can be a fun and bonding experience to go through old memories of what you’ve worn and letting go of the things you no longer need, together. I highly recommend this experience.

As always, thank you for reading and I hope this helps!
