Supernatural Spotlight:
Lemon + Lime
08-20-2020
We want to shine a Supernatural Spotlight on another of our favorite botanicals, this time as a pair! It’s one of the most iconic duos, arguably more well known and beloved than Batman and Robin. The powerful and familiar smell of these two together invigorate the senses and leave a crisp air of clean and refreshing when used. They’re best of friends in the botanical world, where even just one of them on their own is wonderful, together they are legendary.
I’m speaking of course about Lemon and Lime.
The reason these two pair so wonderfully together stems from the fact that Lemons actually originated from Limes! Limes were first grown on a large scale in southern Iraq and Persia, and the fruit was grown commercially in Babylonia. Eventually making its way around the world and mixed with other citrus’ trees to produce lemons. Lemon and Lime are both known for their powerful antioxidant properties. Limes were widely used as a strong deterrent for scurvy and where the british sailors got the nickname “Limeys” because of their use on long ship voyages. It’s also why Limes spread across the earth so quickly and mixed with all the other wonderful citrus’ families eventually producing its equally loved other-half, Lemons.
Metaphysically Lemons and Limes cleanse toxicity within your energy body (Aura). By relieving those stress points they help invigorate and energize and help sharpen your mind and body. They’ve also been used in ancient times as a cleanser for negative energy in temples and homes. Though the ancients did not understand the science of the oils they were using, the results were clear to them, the Citronella found in Lemon and Limes helped deter insects and the diseases they carried. Lemons and Limes were considered spiritually powerful and even holy because of their robust and multifaceted healing properties. Citronella is still a potent compound used today as a natural insect repellent.
They also have strong Aromatherapeutic benefits. Inhaling Lemon and Lime botanicals has been known to ease stress and anxiety. High cortisol levels are suppressed by the vapors, preventing the symptoms of stress and anxiety from manifesting. If you’ve ever wondered why the pairing of Lemon and Lime smells so good, it’s because your body immediately relaxes when they’re experienced.
