The Wolf Moon Howling for Transformation

This full moon was known by early Native American tribes as the Full Wolf Moon. This was the time of year when hungry wolf packs howled outside their warm camps. This moon has also been known as the Old Moon. The wolves are out in the bright light this time of year, anxious and on the hunt for a feast to shake their hunger from the lean winter months. The Native Americans living close to the land held wolves in high esteem. Their strong sense of familial bond to the pack is a beautiful reminder that our loved ones are what can help us through the hardships of the darkest and coldest of nights.

Full Moon Mood

Full Moon phases herald a proper time for endings and closure. Full moon’s also signal an appropriate time to shine a light on or display works and deeds that were previously veiled during the new moon phase. Significance of the Wolf Moon is not just about emotions but it is about closeness. January tends to bring families close together with indoor activities. Some say it is a good time to work on relationships, partnerships and matters of the heart. It is also a ripe time to work on new ventures or projects that require some study time. This full moon will emphasize how fluent we are to the emotions that are attached to communication. Like the wolf, January’s full moon can appear to be cunning. A symbolic teaching that progress is sometimes subtle and happens in the cold and dark. Wolves are also incredibly resourceful and this can also help shine our own hidden potential. Do not be afraid to let your inner self howl with the moon!

Being as this is the beginning of the year it is time to set your intentions for this year by the light of the moon. For many people the Wolf Moon holds deep meaning and this is a good time to let your inner wolf howl! We can use full moons as a checkpoint for our lives and importantly the full Wolf Moon is about starting with an empty clean slate; it is the seed of an idea to become birthed into life with the coming full moons of spring. Be resourceful during this time, we are reminded to still take things slowly as we gather our life energy for the rebirth of spring!
